Institute on Religion and Democracy

North Korea’s official name is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, but in reality, it is a totalitarian, one-party state that oppresses its citizens. There is no freedom of speech or religion. The government maintains its power through a cult religious ideology that idealizes the hereditary dictatorship and suppresses other religions, especially Christianity. The Bible is strictly prohibited, and anyone found practicing Christianity is punished.

The Institute on Religion and Democracy has advocated for a strong and faithful Christian witness in society and politics since 1981. Pastor Kim delivered a speech at the Institute in April, and we held a meaningful discussion on how to advocate for the oppressed people of North Korea and work towards a better future for them.
